Barcelona’s most expensive signings and sales in club football history
The Spanish club Barcelona is one of the most fan-favored teams in the world of football. Although Barcelona faced a minor financial crisis in the last one or two seasons, today they have overcome their financial crisis and come forward. The biggest proof of that is Barcelona’s signing of 5 top players including Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha in the 2022-23 transfer window.
Here’s a look at some of the biggest signings and sales Barcelona have made in their club history. In 2018, Barcelona signed Brazilian attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho from English Premier League club Liverpool for €120 million. The following year in 2019, Barcelona also signed French striker Antoine Griezmann from Spanish club Atlético Madrid for €120 million. These two signings are the most expensive in Barcelona’s history.
The signing of French winger Ousmane Dembele from German club Borussia Dortmund for €105m in 2017 is third on this list. Looking at Barcelona’s biggest sales, the biggest sale in Barcelona’s history was the sale of their Brazilian superstar Neymar to French club Paris Saint-Germain for €222 million in 2017.
The second position in this list is also a Brazilian star. In 2020, Barcelona sold Brazilian midfielder Arthur to Italian club Juventus for €72 million. Barcelona’s sale of Portuguese legend Luis Figo to Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid for €62 million in 2000 is third on the list.
